KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND
(John Hager)

When I was a young man my people on a saturday gathered in the kitchen sat around and played
And we'd play the way it sounds down Louisiana way so we called it our KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND

And Papa bowed the strings of his old time fiddle Uncle squeezed away on his accordian
Mama kept time with a spoon and washboard Brother slapped bass his face in a grin

Little Annie would jump and dance around the kitchen banging with a wooden spoon on a pan
Then I strummed guitar I picked it a little till Annie'd get dizzy and fall down and

That was our little band THE KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND

I tell you in a minute everyone went away time has left me playing alone sometimes I try to play
The way they play when you go down Louisiana way it reminds me of THE KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND

Papa passed on and Uncle soon after Mama sits around arthritis in her hands
Brother left town went north to alaska Annie ran off with the handyman

Accordian and fiddle sit quiet in the attic I can still hear them in my mind
Years have passed since we danced and laughed I'm still strumming half a beat behind

That was our little band THE KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND

Now I'm the one last lone surviving member that's who I am of our little band THE KITCHEN CAJUN FAMILY BAND

I remember when Papa bowed the strings of his old time fiddle Brother slapped bass his face in a grin
Little Annie would jump and she'd dance around the kitchen we'd laugh and play till way past ten
